The
history of the
reeser racing team
The
Reeser Racing Team began in 1968 with the family patriarch Paul Reeser.
With
Bill Chambers driving and Tom Reeser as crew chief, the team became a
major
force in short track racing in the Midwest. The familiar orange and
white,
logged number 22 became a fixture in victory lane, winning 2 track
championships and 18 of 21 features in 1978.
Paul's grandson, Scott Reeser, started his racing career first as a
“go-fer”
mechanic in 1971, then as a driver in 1989. Scott moved from street
stocks in
to the faster modifieds in 1993. The team finished 2nd in points in
1996. Since
then, the team has moved up to the highly competitive traveling USA
Modified
Series and the American Modified Series. These series travel throughout
the
Midwest on a variety of tracks.
The Reeser Racing Team has used the number 22 since in began racing
back in the
1960's. This number represented the number of acres for the newly
formed fishing
lakes at
Paul’s Lakes. The unique “font” of the
numbers, was
first used in the mid 70’s,
when Paul saw them on TV while wintering in Florida. With the theme
fitting
nicely for the Paul’s Lakes, Fishing and Camping, backed
racecar,
the log’s for
numbers, and the fish, became a mainstay for the team. It continues to
be used
and recognized today.
